After getting a bye in the first round, we were up against a team who were sitting in 3rd place in the top division, who could go top with their games in hand.
It took 9 minutes until the first shot was made, Tom Ray hitting a free kick over the wall but saved by the keeper.
After a few half chances from the opposition, we had a great chance on 22 minutes to open the scoring. Mitchell Williams was through on goal but the keeper just got there ahead of him.
4 minutes later, Mitchell Williams was through again. Jack West played a through ball ahead of Mitchell Williams but a terrible touch took it away from him and into the goalkeeper’s hands, this was the start of a hectic 4 minutes!!!
We got off the hook a minute later after Tansley headed over from a corner unmarked.
Jordan Mumford made a great save to deny them the lead from a long shot in the 28th minute.
Then Jack West was denied by their keeper from the kick up field from Jordan Mumford.
Tansley catch us on a counter attack but Tom Ray somehow hooks the ball from the path of the attacker with a slide tackle just as he tries to fire off the shot from 10 yards out.
Joe Crichton tries his luck from range but it’s straight down the keeper’s throat with minutes to spare in the first half.
Then in the final minute of the half, Tansley hit the post!!!
A dramatic end to the first half in which the game was so even.
We get off to a flyer in the first 3 minutes into second half as Joe Crichton plays Tom Ellis through, but he fails to hit the shot on target.
Keenan Johnson gets a red card on 45 minutes for aggressive play as he clashes with a player.
But we get a break as Tom Ellis robs the ball from a defender and races towards goal, and smashes the ball under the keeper a minute after going down to 10 men 0-1
Tom Ellis has the chance to double the lead as he gets put through from Joe Crichton on 54 minutes, but with time on the ball smashes it into the side netting.
Another reckless challenge earns Tom Ellis his second yellow card of the season with 10 minutes to go.
With 5 minutes to go, Jordan Mumford makes a superb point blank save from a corner to deny them an equaliser. We hold out for the win and the lads celebrate on the final whistle.
Rob Orrell collected The Man of The Match trophy today for his brilliant display at the back and Jordan Mumford took home The Effort Award (awarded by Lloyd's Dad) for some great saves which kept us in the game.
A game in which no team stood out, and could have gone either way up until the final whistle. I imagine that was a great game to watch from a neutral. Every one of the lads gave 100% today, for the second game running we have shown we can challenge the top teams. Keep it up lads, and let’s try to have a good cup run :-)
