Lads step up to challenge

A game that is always full of events, didn't disappoint from the off against our rivals for the past few years.

A game in which there were plenty of tackles but not as many chances. 20 minutes was on the clock before the shot on target, a 20 yard strike from AFC, straight into the arms of Jordan Mumford.

A dubious decision meant that Rob Orrell collected his 1st Yellow Card this season for a soft challenge on 22 minutes.

Rob Orrell was in the thick of it again on 26 minutes as he powered a header high and wide from a Tom Ellis corner.

4 minutes later we concede as the attacker collects the ball in the middle of the park form a goal kick, chests it down and hits it from 25 yards, while nobody pressures him. The ball flying over the keeper and in the net 1-0

We go 2 down on 36 minutes, a player cutting back from left, crossing the ball for an unmarked player to hit from 10 yards. Jordan Mumford getting a hand to it but unable to keep it out 2-0

The half time whistle blew, the lads needed no picking up with the team talk as we knew we were not out of this game yet. So a few words later and a little tinker with the tactics and the lads were raring to get back out there.

It was 24 minutes before a chance came into the second half, this time it was for us. Jack West plays Mitchell Williams the ball, who sends a 1st time pass over to Joe Crichton, who calmly fires it past the keeper 2-1

We are now back in the game, they are rattled and it showed. The lads looked 2 feet taller as we passed better, moved better and most of all we could hear them.

But a quick counter attack had us back peddling minutes later, a shot from the right to the bottom left corner, but Jordan Mumford makes a great save down low to tip it round the post.
Dec Dawn makes a goal line clearance from the resulting corner.

We get ourselves sorted and get the momentum back, but couldn't convert a corner which led to a goal mouth scramble but wouldn't fall for us on 72 minutes.

We get a free kick on the 77th minute after the keeper handles outside the box.
Tom Ray steps up to hit, a 20 yard cracker into the top right corner!!! 2-2

We are level but are flying high with our tails up, can we get another to clinch it and take all 3 points?

In the last minute, Richard Nock collects the ball on the left inside the area, takes a touch and smashes it onto the bar with Darius Willetts heading the rebound over from 2 yards.

The game was unfortunately marred by some unpleasant scenes after the final whistle by some of the opposing parents and spectators. But gratitude to my lads and parents for not getting involved, and showing how kids football should be.

Tom Ray took home The Man of The Match trophy for the 3rd time in 5 matches this season after an impressive display today and Dec Dawn collected The Effort Award (awarded by Tom Ray's dad) for a faultless game against one of the best attackers in the league

A game we were happy to draw after going 2 down before half time, but unhappy to not take 3 points with our excellent second half showing.

Brilliant second half display lads, the best half I’ve seen you play.
